Whistler, British Columbia

With 9 m (30 ft) of annual snowfall and North America’s largest vertical drop of 1,609 m (5,280 ft), Whistler Blackcomb offers exhilarating skiing and snowboarding. Choose from steeps and deeps, long cruisers and gentle rollers, or high alpine bowls and glades.

Fine tuning for the 2005/06 ski season means that several runs have been widened and landing zones expanded for easier and improved ski- outs. Also new this year, experience the Blackcomb Family Tube Park, a six to eight-lane adventure accessed via a new tube-friendly, carpet-style lift.

Caring for families is a Whistler specialty. Whistler Kids offers ski and snowboard lessons for the little ones. The Nanny Network offers reliable child care and even dog walking and doggie babysitting services. Teens can enjoy the Ride Tribe program and learn freeride and park skiing and snowboarding. The LUNA program for teenagers offers alcohol-free evening events from pool parties to movie nights.

Other snow adventures include heli-sking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, dogsledding, snowmobiling, sleigh rides, ice climbing and winter fishing. You’ll probably run out of energy before you run out of things to do!

Like many locals who came for the winter, but stayed for the summer you will find even more to do in Whistler’s awesome summer. Festivals and events run almost weekly in the summer from arts and music festivals to the ever-popular mountain biking events. Whistler Mountain boasts the largest mountain bike park and miles of alpine hiking trails from easy to difficult and look out in 2007 as Whistler Blackcomb connects Whistler and Blackcomb with the world's longest and highest free-spaned gondola. One of only four like it in the world! Incredible spa retreats, world-class championship golf courses, backcountry adventures and in-valley adventures are all there to make you sleep soundly at night.

The resort has 115 hotels, condos, and bed & breakfasts, as well as many apartments, self-cater lodges and motels. Many accommodations offer ski- in / ski-out access.

Renowned for panoramic views and après ski delights, Whistler has over 90 restaurants, bars and bistros in the pedestrian-only Village. The Village is close to services and amenities, and safely accommodates strollers, young children and dogs on leashes. A free shuttle service operates between Village North, Whistler Village and the Upper Village.

For these reasons and more Whistler Blackcomb has been recognized as one of the top resorts on the continent. In October 2004, SKIING Magazine ranked the resort #1 overall in North America. TransWorld SNOWboarding Magazine’s Annual Resort Poll also gave the resort a #1 overall ranking.
